TRAVEL PLANNING EDUCATION

Cruise Accessibility Planning Checklist

Review cabins, port access and onboard accommodations for travelers with mobility or other access needs.

Educational information only. Verify current operator terms, eligibility, pricing and applicable legal requirements before acting.

What to know before you decide

01

Discuss needs early and privately

Ask the traveler which accommodations matter: accessible cabin layout, roll-in shower, mobility-device storage, sensory needs or dietary arrangements. Share only necessary information with authorized providers.

02

Check the entire route

A ship may be accessible while a tender port, excursion vehicle or transfer is not. Verify gangway, tendering, port facilities and shore excursion requirements.

03

Confirm arrangements in writing

Check accessible cabin inventory, equipment policies, assistance request deadlines and the operator’s actual commitments before paying.

04

Verify the full chain of access

Discuss the traveler's stated preferences privately: cabin dimensions, roll-in shower, mobility-equipment charging, hearing support, sensory conditions or assistance during embarkation. Check actual cabin inventory and deadlines. Then review airport transfers, port facilities, tender arrangements, shore vehicles and excursion access. An accessible stateroom does not automatically mean the entire travel itinerary is accessible.

05

Confirm support with the provider

Request the operator's current accessibility policy and submit required accommodation requests through official channels. Check device dimensions, battery rules, storage restrictions and service-animal documentation when relevant. Obtain written responses to essential questions and include an alternate activity where access depends on weather or local infrastructure. Do not promise an accommodation based only on generic website labels.

Questions people ask

Does an accessible cabin guarantee accessible excursions?

No. Port facilities and third-party excursions must be checked separately.

Can a scooter be stored in a hallway?

Operators often restrict corridor storage; verify size and approved storage rules.
