What to know before you decide

01

Check where you operate and sell

Requirements vary by state, country, residence, business location and the customers you serve.

02

Distinguish credentials

A host's supplier access does not automatically satisfy every independent advisor's legal obligations. Ask for written compliance guidance.

03

Review marketing and payment rules

Understand disclosures, fund handling, cancellation information and insurance requirements before accepting customer money.

04

Map jurisdictions before marketing

List where the business is established, where it solicits clients and which travel services it sells. Research seller-of-travel registration, disclosures, trust-account or bond requirements and exemptions through current state regulators. Host-agency affiliation may change responsibilities but does not automatically eliminate them. Save regulator links and renewal dates in a compliance register.

05

Distinguish credentials from legal authority

A supplier certificate or industry course can establish training but is not a substitute for any required government registration. Verify business formation, tax obligations, privacy rules and advertising claims separately. Before collecting customer funds, confirm who is merchant of record and what contract authorizes payment processing. Seek qualified legal guidance for multi-state sales questions.
